Over the past few years, brawls at malls and shopping centers have become a somewhat regular occurrence. But at Moreno Valley Mall, the three fights that happened on Sunday were beyond the pale, requiring the Riverside County Sheriff's Department to be called, and management is cracking down on unaccompanied teens. The youths, who were drawn by $4 movie tickets, may now face additional stipulations if they visit the shopping center at 22500 Town Circle after 5 p.m. on weekdays or anytime on weekends, according to a report in the Inland Empire's Press-Enterprise.Specifically, the mall plans to require minors to wear lanyards that feature their names and the contact information that can be used to report misbehavior to their parents, according to the Press-Enterprise.The announcement came a day after the brawls, which forced Moreno Valley Mall management to "go back to the drawing board with regard to unattended youth at our property," according to a post by Chelsey Ritchie in the More...

Dangerous Toys Come Out to Play

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 07:46:34 GMT

Dangerous Toys Come Out to Play: Austin rockers Dangerous Toys, as frontman Jason McMaster points out during the show, haven’t performed at the Whisky in quite a few years. This venue plays host  to a lot of bands from the ’80s hair/sleaze scene — it remains the spiritual home of that music. It’s a party club for nostalgia hounds. But there’s no doubting the fact that, when Dangerous Toys rolled into L.A. this week, they weren’t fucking around. They look great, first of all. Less big hair and bandanas, more beards and sunglasses — they’re sporting a biker rock look, akin to the likes of Little Caesar.McMaster has long had one of the most underrated voices in rock, and he’s also a superb frontman. Funny and charismatic, he likes to throw anecdotes out between songs and play with the crowd a little. There was a charming moment at the Whisky when he thought he recognized the woman who discovered Dangerous Toys and pulled her on stage...

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 07:46:34 GMT

Danville’s eagerly awaited, veggie-forward Blossom & Root will open it doors on Aug. 30, offering the Tri-Valley’s first upscale restaurant menu to showcase vegan fare. It’s a move six years in the making, says owner Susan Vergilio, whose daughter inspired their entire family to go vegan. The only problem with that lifestyle change? There weren’t many restaurant options at the time where their family could dine out. So Vergilio, whose background is in chemistry and teaching, set out to change that, learning not only how to create a menu of delicious, high-level dishes — the executive chef is Jen Sopinsky — but how to open and run a restaurant.Blossom & Root is located at 411 Hartz Ave. in downtown Danville. It is the first entirely vegan restaurant in the Tri-Valley area. Here’s what the hurricane categories mean

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 07:46:34 GMT

By Jennifer Gray | CNN MeteorologistOnce a tropical storm strengthens into a hurricane, it earns a category designation on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale: 1 through 5.Knowing about each category can help predict what damage an incoming storm may inflict – and how best to prepare. The categories are defined by wind speed, with a storm of Category 3, 4, or 5 considered a major hurricane. And damage is exponential as wind speed increases, meaning a strong Category 3 storm could do up to 60 times as much damage as a weak Category 1 storm. But it’s not always as simple as ticking up from 1 to 5.Hurricanes carry many risks not adequately conveyed by the wind speed-based scale, including:• Storm surge – when winds push water onto shore – which accounted for about half of hurricane fatalities between 1963 and 2012, according to a 2014 report in the Bulletin of the American Meteorological Society;• Rainfall-induced flooding and mudslides, which made up about a quarter of such deaths, ...
